Anybody know what IPC server is? Every so often I'm getting a message that it wants to access the internet through my hardware and software firewalls. I deny access and continue fine. I didn't know I had the thing. You think maybe it's spyware?

Yes, it could very well be spyware. Download AddAware from http://www.lavasoft.de/aaw/index.html

Yes I do. I'm on a LAN. What program is it that's trying to make my computer act as a server?

I do not have any shared directories or printers that I am aware of. Should I block this application or not?

I have been having the same exact problem and I also stopped it from accessing the Net. Thing is I don't know what it is or why it is trying to access the Internet.

Even when I block it from accessing the Internet, I can keep working with no problems.

If anybody know of a way to check for sure what's causing it to try to access the Net I woul appreciate some help. To my knowledge I do not have any shared directories and defenitely no shared printers. (DSL LAN connection)

Take a look at this post for more info--> http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/23182.html

I would try renaming the file (MSIPCSV.EXE) to MSIPCSV.BAK. If everything still functions after some period of time, trash it... or save it if you start fretting. You can always change the name back. I agree with a fellow on this other forum and believe spyware is to blame for the connection attempts, having used some of the mentioned software before I knew any better.

Yeah, after installing ZoneAlarm this warning came up RIGHT after I ran Go!Zilla, so I think it's associated with that spyware. Aureate is the real name of it, if I recall correctly. I disallowed access, and would reccomend that you do the same.
