After unistalling Nero on my win98 machine I got the following message on start-up:

While Initializing device IOS: ERROR:An I/O subsystem driver failed to load. Either a file in the .\iosubsys subdirectory is corrupt, or the system is low on memory.

I have tried deleting the smartdrv file and adding maxfilecache=6144 to the system.ini file. None of which corrected the problem.

I have done it with step by step config and the Bootlog file starts to show problems when it trys to load files from the IOSUBSYS dir.

Firstly it loads a file called nti4cdr.vxd (which is the only one in that directory, I checked), it then trys to load the files rmm.pdr & bigmem.drv which are not there.

Can anyone provide a solution/advice on what to do next?, I really can't lose some of the data/programs i have on this machine.

Is there somewhere where I can get a copy of the files that should be in THE IOSUBSYS dir?

Any help at all would be fantastic

First re-install Nero and uninstall it again.
After installing go to the control panel and select add/remove software if you did not do this the first time.
Select Nero-Burning ROM and Add/Remove.

Post Back.

Thanks for that file list sam. I am now
using the BOOTLOG.TXT file to see what files it needs and adding them one a a time

mesich, I can't re-instal/remove nero as The PC doesn't make it past the boot stage, thanks for taking the time anyway.
