Invalid system disk

I have an old Packard Bell with 1.2GB HDD that had Win95 on it, I formated the HDD to install Win98SE. I have been unable to get it to recognize any disks I put in. Right after the POST, it says OS load in progress... Invalid system disk; Replace the disk and press any key. It does that with or without the Win98 Boot Floppy in the drive. My boot options are floppy first, HDD second, third and fourth disabled. Please help!

have you tried to put both the boot ups on floppy. if not, have you tried to go to dos and manually start the disk. go to the dos prompt, if it is in a: then type a: or whichever drive the disk is on, then type startup or setup, that would be my only suggestion, can't think of anything else.

Try some other bootable floppies. If they all fail, your floppy drive might have bit the dust.

i cant get to a dos prompt, it puts up the Invalid system disk first. I have tried 2 floppy drives, they do not fail in the POST.

Like the other guy said, try some other floppies.
If this doesn't work try disabling floppy from your boot order in BIOS so that you can at least get your comp to boot from HD, and you might have to get a new floppy drive.

Have you tried cleaning your Drive A: just in case the heads are dirty and are not reading anything? There are cheap clean kits under 4 bucks that will do it, may save replacing drive and a quick way to do another check, as well as keep the cleaner for new drive if this one is shot

have you tried going into bios and checking the hard drive, if it is not right then auto detect it and then try again it is possible the settings could have changed

I've see this when command.com is missing from the boot path, when booting to the HD. I've also seen it (today, as a matter of fact!) when using something other than the supplied recovery CD on a Dell pc to boot it when it's busted. Can't recall the model. The Dell, or it's CD, seem to shift the drive letters ALL OVER THE PLACE! DROVE ME INSANE! Why it doesn't find it on a floppy, I can't say, but I could not get any of a variety of perfectly good boot disks to work.
