Comment:

After a full format, I restarted with bootdisk in floppy drive, and got the message 'INVALID SYSTEM DISK, REPLACE THE DISK, AND THEN PRESS ANY KEY'. Whether the disk is in the floppy drive or not, the message is just the same. I cannnot get to the A:prompt and then on to the CD Drtive etc etc, so I can continue with the O/S install. I've reformatted a thousand time before with no problem but this is driving me scatty!! Its an old computer, granted but it hasn't been a problem in the past to reload.
Could I try booting from a cd rom???
Any pointers would be great.

Regards

Wayne

Are you sure your Floppy Disk drive is saught and the Win98BootDisk attempted to be read during bootup before the HDD LED is lit?

In that case try with a diffrent Win98 Startup Disk with the suspicion that it is a currupt Boot disk

If a Bad Boot Disk is ruled out, it is possible the floppy drive is damaged if the Boot Order in the BIOS setup is Floppy drive>CD -ROM drive> HDD or CD-ROM >Floppy Drive>HDD.

You can make CD-ROM drive first in BIOS Boot Order and start with Win98 CD to install.

BIOS Boot order must be

1. CD-ROM Drive
2. Hard disk Drive
3. Floppy Drive

If you fidsked you may have deleted the hidden partition where some of the BIOS commands are stored. This is the case with some HP I believe.

If you only format c: then I don't know.

Let me understand? You formatted your hard drive. Now you want to reload win98? You are putting a start up diskette in drive a.You may need a boot diskette with "cdrom support. This will load cdrom drivers that will enable you to load the win98 cd. Good luck Lenny.

Just in case, try putting the floppy first in the boot order. Also, you can download a file that will create a bootable floppy from www.bootdisk.com.
