Subject: Invalid System Disk / After formatting
Comment:

I got a new laptop, IBM 380XD and I formatted the hard drive in DOS. I made a boot disk for Windows 98 on my desktop computer so I could boot it up. Every time I start up the laptop, the only thing I get is "invalid system disk Replace the disk, and then press any key" If I take out the boot disk, I get the same message. I don't know what to do, can anybody help me out?

Boot your computer and when you see the memory test (numbers ticking over) prtess your DEL or F1 key to get into your BIOS. Check to see if your boot sequence is A,C,and that Boot Floppy seek is enabled.

I tried doing that. I get to the easy-setup program on the thinkpad and I see the start up sequence, which boots "hard drive, floppy, then cd-rom" but it won't let me change them. Know how?

(my experience on laptops) in bios setup; the direction keys, the left & right keys scroll through the setup options, and the up & down keys change the options you selected.

set the boot sequence to A - CD_rom - Harddrive

good luck

check you have sys.com on your bootfloppy.
boot from the floppy.
type SYS A:[and press enter]
remove floppy and reboot.
when you format use
format c: /s to transfer system files so the disk will have the system files and can boot
