Virus....
SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Office 2000, you receive the following error message:This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the following
MSIEXEC caused an invalid page fault in module MSIEXEC.exe at 015f:00400288.
followed by the previous error message.CAUSE
This problem occurs if your computer is infected with the Win95.CIH virus.RESOLUTION
You can remove the virus by obtaining the latest version of an anti-virus program.Hope this helps...

I have the exact same error on this msiexec.exe file:
0167:00400280
I also need some help, and YES, is is NOT the virus - tried that unsuccessfully...
Please help?

I have scanned for a virus none found also went into my win\temp dir, there is placed a text document that gets created each time I run the setup program in the file it tells me my IE version is not correct the way I read the file is that the original version of IE is missing which indeed it is I cleaned that out when I bought the computer some 3 years ago but for some odd reason it is not liking Win2k products the item I am trying to install is a trial copy of front page 2k. I've checked around I have heard reinstalling win98 won't help. If you bought a ms product you do get a couple calls free for installing.
Last year I had to call MS for help installing visual studio they were real good.
Otherwise bite the bullet and pay near as I can tell It keeps coming back to some win95.cih virus or something, and with that someone suggested a DOS scanner for virus detection???

Hey that win95cih virus is a chernobyl virus
maybe these URLS below can help
http://www.pspl.com/download/cleancih.htm
and also
www.mcafee.com

I got it...copy the entire Office 2000 CD to your hard drive, boot in safe mode...install. It works.
