Is the shell in your system.ini set for explorer.exe? I know that some Compaq's have that problem due to the shell being set to cpqshell.exe. Even if you aren't using a Compaq, it might be something to check out.

Steve,
Be very careful in making changes to shell32.dll and shell.dll. Winows rewrites these to your system at setup and changing it will cause major problems. A corruption of shell32.dll will often cause your system to be unable to boot Windows and necessitate a Windows reload. Since explorer and shell32 are dependent on kernel32.dll to load and run you would be best to extract kernel32.dll and see if that fixes the problem. Use the System File Checker if you are using Win98.
