Comment:

I had a FunLove Virus infect my computer. Apparently it corrupted the boot sector of my hard drive. Since innoculating the virus and restarting the computer, it wouldn't reboot. I used a startup disk and tried running the sys c: command, but I keep getting the invalid media type message. I tried booting from a Win 98 CD ROM and running sys c: but again I get the message. Any ideas on how I can recover from this or am I screwed?

Make sure the HD is identified properly in cmos. Also run fdisk and view your partiton information. That error message usually means the OS isn't seeing the partition correctly. You may have to use a norton rescue disk.

I've tried all the options on Fdisk. nothing seems to work. I don't have a Norton rescue disk although Norton told me that it was repairing my boot sector during the scan. Also, when running fdisk it says I have 1 unknown partition. Can I repartition without losing all my data?

If you repartition you'll lose everything. If it's really important that you keep what's on your HD then you should probably look for some recovery software at a computer store. That might help but there's no guarantee. Otherwise you may as well repartition and reformat and install windows again.
