Dell Latitude CPx

Labtop

TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-7002B SCSI CD-ROM DEVICE

Used to have Win2k Server OS on it

I nuked it to install Win95 OS

It nuked fine using a floppy and the c:/ is all set on FAT32 and that....

Used a bootdisk and now I can get it to this without using a floppy:

Starting Windows 95...

Microsoft(R) Windows 95
(C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1996.
C:\>

So I figure 'great' and

Now it comes time to try to run the win95 setup disk in the d:/

inserted win95 cd

reboot

Comes up with the same command prompt....

Starting Windows 95...

Microsoft(R) Windows 95
(C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1996.
C:\>

Now comes the problem.

C:\> d:
Invalid drive specification.

Tried this command with all letters a-z.
No luck. What do I need to do? And don't give me the link to bootdisk.com again plz, I have already run win95a win95b boot disks from there and well as others from polarhome and ultimate boot disk. Nothing is working.
I have previously read all of your help on people with problems close to mine....none of those remedies worked for me. Please help.

Do you have a driver disk for the SCSI cdrom? Normally the win98 boot disk would work but you need to install the SCSI drivers.

Hi,
You need to install CDROM drivers in your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. The driver for the config.sys could be oakcdrom.sys the standard from Win95/98 rescue disk. From this disk you will also find MSCDEX.exe which must be in the autoexec.bat
Try searching on this for the exact way to use this, or read the files from the Win95/98 resceu disk.
Regards,
Rob.

Yup, no doubt about it. You have to install the drivers in config.sys and autoexec.bat.
www.driverguide.com might help with the drivers.

People have told me you have to have a cdrom drive in for the programs on the floppy to detect.....but I can't have both the floppy drive and the cdrom drive in at the same time .....is this a problem?

I know I need to install something so my labtop can recognize the cdrom drive........but it won't install any of them......it says..."Drive not detected". I am assuming it is talking about the cdrom drive which I can't have in at the same time...

If you have formatted and sysgened the hard drive so it's bootable, copy the driver(S) to the hard drive, boot the hard drive and install the drivers from there.

boot up with your win95 boot floppy, then
A:\copy himem.sys c:\
A:\copy TAISATAP.SYS c:\
A:\copy mscdex.exe c:\
then open edit or notepad and copy these lines and enter them exactly as they are here

set temp=c:\
set tmp=c:\
LH MSCDEX.exe /D:mscd001

then save as autoexec.bat in your C: drive or on your floppy disk and then copy it to your C: drive
next open edit or notepad and copy these lines exactly as they are here

device=himem.sys /testmem:off
device=TAISATAP.SYS /D:MSCD001
files=10
buffers=10
dos=high,umb
stacks=9,256
lastdrive=z

next save this as CONFIG.SYS to your C: drive
or A: drive and copy it to your C: drive from there. Then remove the floppy disk and reboot
