Allright, I was downloading something on my computer, and when I went to go to my desktop I got an error message that said my desktop was either removed or replaced. So I shut down my computer, and when I went to power it up, when it was searching for the boot records, it said I had an invalid boot disk, and to press anykey. When I pressed any key, it just kept repeating the same thing over and over. So I went and found my Win98 startup disk, and it was in and running, but still nothign changed. NOw, I am only 16, and don't know diddly squat about formating computers, or anything like that. But I really can't afford to lose anything on my computer, if I allready havn't lost it all. Well I have no clue what to do inorder to get this problem fixed. So, thanks to anyone, and everyone who is able to help me.

When you say"I went and got my Win98 startup disk"

Did you get a 3.5 bootable

floppy diskette,or a CD?

Try replacing the CMOS battery on your motherboard. You can just use the one from the computer you're currently on.

I posted the above website although I wouldn't jump on the battery train just yet.

Have you been to bootdisk.com and downloaded the Win98 bootdisk file yet?

The file is actually double clicked on with a formatted 3.5 floppy disk in you floppy drive and used to make a boot disk.

Go to the above site and download windows98 SE OEM file.

Are you prepared to say what the "something" was that you were downloading? Could have been a virus or some nasty or other.

Try tapping F8 key while booting just to see if you can get to the startup menu (a list of things on a black screen).

YOu can also do this without any additional software once the drive is slaved into a working machine.
