Hi all

I have just recently built 5 new PCs from scratch. All are the same spec, AMD XP 2400+ cpu, 40gb, 256mb, cd rom, onm board graphics etc.

Problem is, 2 of the PCs have network cards in them, and the other 3 aint. The 2 that have the cards in can access the internet VIA our LAN, using IP. but the other 3 cant?

why is this? surly they shud still work even tho they are using the on board RJ45 slot? but for some reason i just cant seem to get it to work on the internet.

they all have win98se, netware client 3:12, and i have put all the IP address in correctly, and also the subnet mask and the DNS Configuration, and the Gateway. BUT it still wont access the internet, it also doesnt PING anyone either.

TCP/IP is installed on them, and i have taken it off and reinstalled it but still no luck, also took the client off and installed that again and it still wont work.

anyone any more Ideas please?? surely there must be a way to access the internet using on board as i have done with a few of the other PCs that have onboard here. i just cant think of anything else to try?!

HELP PLEASE! lol

thanks

Graeme

It sounds like the drivers for the on board NIC's might not be installed. Look in device manager under network adapters - does the ethernet adapter have a yellow "!" through it? You'll need to install the correct NIC driver if that's the case. If you just installed Win 98, and didn't specifically install drivers for those NIC's, that's your problem. Win 2000 and XP likely would have recognized and installed the NIC drivers for you automatically, but not 98se.

experiencing same problem...except mines really screwy. Home LAN w/ linksys 4 port router win98SE...k cant get the 98se PC to connect to the internet BUT it communicates with all other LAN shared folders n printers...when I try to access the routers web interface from the 98 pc it won't allow me to. so I plug the cable modem straight to my computer...reset the modem - released - renewed STILL no internet! Now if the NIC's drivers were incorrect it wouldn't allow file sharing acces etc. would it? and also I've tried 3 dif NIC's all different brands and one a usb adapter, still no internet! I go to IE and it says detecting proxy settings...then it says finding www.whatever.com so already u know its not going to work. I even went as basic as using the IC wizard lol this is crazy and frustrating. thanks to anyone w/ answers
