Internet Explorer.5.5 just idles

Recently installed I.E.5.5 on Win95 computer. Most of the time when I bring it up, it works fine for awhile displaying pages as I click on them but soon it seems to malfunction and just idles rather than display pages. At this point, I have to disconnect from my dial-up connection and re-connect, at which point it will work for awhile again. It does not seem to be a problem with my ISP (earthlink) because I never had the problem until installing this browser or with Netscape Navigator. Appreciate any suggestions or insights. Thanks
