Hey guys, I recently got cable internet and now seem to have a problem. When I go to the message boards that I frequent, if someone posts a link in their message I can click on it and the window pops up but nothing loads. I don't get an error message in that window or anything. It just stays clear with the tool bar at the top of the screen and everything. Hope this makes sense to you guys. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Usually the first item under the Resolution section at the link below solves the problem.

To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
Quit all programs that are running.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type "regsvr32 urlmon.dll" (without the quotes), and then click OK.
When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If it doesn't follow the other instructions at the link below.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried everything on that page with no success. Except for this which I didn't understand...

If the problem is still not resolved, verify that the following registry values are present and correct:

Found another problem too. I went to do a windows update which included a couple IE updates. The download window came up but it wasn't downloading. I tried to cancel and got an error saying explorer had performed an illegal operation. Something is seriously jacked up I'm thinking.

huskeralk, Have you tried Repairing Internet Explorer? Start/Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and hilite it, click the Remove button which should give you 3 options, choose Repair Internet Explorer, click OK and let it do its thing. This may correct your problems.

Yeah, I gave the repair option a try too. Still no luck. I am completely baffled as to what might have happened.

huskeralk, I found this fix on another forum where the person had the same problem and downoaded & installed the "mcrepair.exe tool" which corrected their problem. You can check it out under:

Microsoft Office 2000 or an Office 2000 Component IS NOT Installed on Your Computer
If you do not have Office 2000 or an Office 2000 component installed on your computer, download and install the mcrepair.exe tool. To obtain and install the mcrepair.exe tool, please visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://download.microsoft.com/

Save the mcrepair.exe file to the desktop, and then run mcrepair.exe. When it prompts you to overwrite Newer files, make sure you click YES for each file.

Restart your computer after you install mcrepair.exe.

Here's the link to check out.

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/rpcstub.jsp

It's your call but is a possibility and I can't guarantee you anything.

Hi huskeralk, Tufenuf, Johnw, hi everyone

In addition to all those great posts that you guys have been posting already, here is another one you might want go through regarding the mcrepair.exe tool.

IE6 Open New Window not working
(http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/145884.html)

I knew it was here all along, right under my nose. ;-)
I was to pre-occupied with other threads and a little bit to lazy to do a quick search. :*-).

Hope it's still of use.

Hi huskeralk, Tufenuf, Johnw, The Count, hi everyone,

The problem is most likely due to an incorrect version of oleaut32.dll. I have seen this many times with Win98 using OE6.

Using the mcrepair.exe tool as suggested by Tufenuf will replace the oleaut32.dll file with the correct version along with 3 other files.

The correct version for Win98/OE6 is 2.40.4518.0.

If you check the version you currently have it most likely is 3.50.5014.0 which is for WinXP/IE6.

As stated by Tufenuf ensure you select Yes when prompted to overwrite newer files.

Here is a link to the mcrepair.exe tool.

The incorrect version of oleaut32.dll will cause problems with opening new windows along with the issues you are experiencing with the Microsoft updates not downloading.

Great links Johnw, Tufenuf and The Count.

Good Day!
Mesich
