No spyware in the Windows Updates.
As for the 18 critical updates you will need to read through them for your specific use. I for example am not connected to a network so I did not download the Windows Share Level Password Update.

The critical updates are good to do, the rest need to be read through like stated above. Half of them are for laugage stuff. direct x8.1 is on there as is IE 6.0 service pack also.
Basically, if you are on broadband, then yes definetly do the CRITICAL updates and upgrade your browser to IE 6.0.

Q for Matt... Why do you say IE6 is preferable for broadband use. I do agree regarding critical updates, broadband or not. Ray

My humble opinion: With all the virus, hacker and security problems with Windows I think it would be a good idea to do the critical updates. Service Pack 1 will pick up a bunch of the patches. Do that one first and see how many "critical" ones are left. I had trouble with SP2 myself and undid it but have kept up with the individual patches as they came out and haven't run into any problems. As for IE6, I've read about a lot of problems on this forum alone. Might want to hold off on that until you get up to date.
