Internet Explorer crashes machine

Internet Explorer 5 causes my machine to crash as soon as I click on a link. This is a new problem.
I tried to unistall it (and then re-install)- but cannot see how to - the only options given were to repair broken files (that didn't work) or add components.
I downloaded and installed IE6 but the problem still remains.

Do the following...
1. delete all your internet temporary files 2. delete all the cookies 3. do a windows scandisk on your pc 4. one more time, uninstall ie and reinstall ie6

Two things. First run a scandisk, this often corrects a problem. Second, boot to a dos prompt outside of windows by using your win 98 boot disk, then type scanreg / restore with a space between commands, and this will allow you to restore your machine to a previous date within the last 5 days. If this doesn't work, try a program called IERADICATOR, this will allow you to take IE out all together and re-install whatever version you like. If all else fails. use your boot disc and re-install win 98. Hope this helps
