Comment: When browsing with Internet Explorer 6.0 I continually get the message: "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." When I click on 'info' I get: ERROR SIG app name: iexplore.exe appver: 6.0.2800.1106 mod name: MSVCRT.DLL mod ver: 6.1.8293.0 Offset: 000154a7 No spyware or viruses were found. Someone had posted the same problem here and got a link to download the dll file. I used the link, downloaded the file and put it in c\windows\system32 as instructed, but this didn't help. Did I do it wrong? Does anyone have any other ideas? Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks so much. Webacon

Reply: (edit)I'm still on IE55 but to my mind putting it in c:\windows\system32 sounds very odd. I would have expected it to go in c:\windows\system If you already have a msvcrt.dll in "c:\windows\system" copy it to a floppy first (just in case you should need it back). Then copy yours over from system32 to system. It won't matter if you have two copies just to try it - the system will only act on the one in the correct location. Derek.W

Reply: (edit).... a bit more. Windows might not let you overwrite this file because it is in use. In which case you will need to copy it over to c:\windows\system using DOS. Shout back if you need a hand. I've got to go AWOL for some time but hopefully someone will stopy by and help you if necessary. Derek.W

Reply: (edit)Hi Derek: Thanks for the reply and you're right, it won't let me copy over this file as it's in use. I have no idea how to do it otherwise. I'm thinking it might be better (easier?) to return to an older version of I.E. If I try deleting it in my Add/Remove program, will it then restore an older version? I'm a little scared to do this and end up with NO Internet Explorer and no way to browse. Any help? Webacon

Reply: (edit)Copying the file over from DOS is quite easy if you want to go that way (just a line of text). As regards going back to an earlier IE version, you should get this option if you double click the entry "Microsoft IE & Tools" in Control Panel/Add-Remove. You should also get an IE repair option, so it would be worth trying that first. Derek.W
