Ihavenet explorer 5.5. already downloading.internet explorer 6 but no luck on my computrt. its not showing on the add and remove button my internet explorer 5.5 to remove. Ineed to restore my internet explorer6.how do i remove my internet explorer 5.5 from my computer and install 6. im using windows 98.

First Repair IE....as Derek pointed out, go to Start>Run and type rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt

Once repaired, it should show up on Add Remove Programs List.

You don't need to remove IE 5.5 before installing IE 6. Go to, and run Windows Update. Update should present you with the option of updating to IE6.

I agree with OtheHill on this. If, as I suspect, you have some problem with downloading IE6.1 as a Windows update you can download IE6 as an .exe file from here (big download):

IE VERSIONS

This can be installed from the .exe file without removing IE55. There's a fair chance that this will fix things so that you will then be able to use normal Windows update for IE6.1 version afterwards.

I'll see if I can find a website to download IE6.1 itself as a file (unless anyone else can give you a link in the meantime).
