Is there anywhere I can get IE 5.5 SP2? Microsoft seems to not have the link anymore. They are only allowing version 6 downloads from what I can find.
They make mention of a version upgrade for ME but nothing for Windows 98SE. Thanks

I got this from a non-microsoft site:

"After completely removing Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 from the Microsoft site, Microsoft re-instated it in late April 2003. The catch? The new download is for Windows Me only. You can't use this download on Windows 95, 98 or 2000. Windows 98 and 2000 users can update to Internet Explorer 6 SP1. Sadly, Windows 95 users are left out in the cold - IE6 doesn't run on Windows 95. This is not our choice, it is a decision by Microsoft. Please don't send us cranky emails - we have enough crankiness to last an eternity."

So your option is IE6. it's more stable, has more control over cookies and install on demand, and it's still supported for win98.

Yes there are good reasons for being a pack-rat. If you have any older MSN CDs or other ISP disk laying around you might be lucky. I have found IE 5.5 on an old MSN and AT&T CDs that have been delivered in the mail. You might have to get rid of all the ad stuff after installing, ie. change the logo and get rid of 'provided by' things.
So yes dear I really do need to keep those old CDs!!

If you can`t sort it out, which I couldn`t with my problems with IE5.5sp2, I changed to another browser, Opera 7.1(free, but does have a small add banner at the top, but not too anoying. Faster than IE5.5sp2, at least on my machine. Good luck in your quest.

In view of #1 are you able to confirm that the version given in your link is OK for non-ME users?

Derek, It should be OK as I know others who have downloaded & installed it on non-ME machines with no problems. I'm fairly certain that that download was on that site long before Microsoft recently released the IE 5.5 SP2 for Windows ME.
