Internet Explorer 4.0 Hanging Until Clear History Folder

On a couple of PC's here (Win95 IE4 SP2), Internet Explorer will hang when going out to the net. Happens on differnt web sites so that is not the issue. What Ihave found is that by clearing the History folder from inside IE (right click on icon and go to properties) this takes care of it.
Has anyone experienced this and knows of a permanent fix. No IE5 is not an option because it is a security dog...
On the same window as you clear history, set history save to 0 days. IE5 has some security issues, all fixable with updates. IE4 has no security at all, it's a sieve. Al
