This is sorta weird, one week ago my dad's computer and mine (the host computer) worked fine with each other sharing the cable connection. We use Cox.Net (once Cox@home), and since then he has not installed any new software.
BUT I did disconnect the 30 foot phone line running from my computer to his so I could use the net when we used dial-up, the extra phone line was only in this room. Also, when we got the cable internet installed, we got digital cable and since then he disconnected it himself because he did not like it.

Also, when I boot up, it says "You are currently connected to the Internet. Would you like to start AOL now?" meaning it thinks its on the net but it isnt, when you click IE it comes up can't find page like you're not online.

The host computer's connection is fine, Internet Connection Sharing is installed. Both Device Managers say nothing is wrong. Computers see each other and themselves, so it's not a network problem. The non-host computer just won't pick up the internet connection, even though it did a week ago and he says he hasnt't changed anything. Host computer works fine.

Here are the specs:

non-host computer guest:
Pentium 200
64 RAM
Linksys Network card

host computer
500 mhz
256 RAM
linksys network card
d-link LAN card

any ideas? should be something simple...both systems running win98se.

Hi, if you still have the disk you made when installing Internet Connection Sharing run this in the Non-Host system. it might fix it.

If not, run C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard\ICWCONN1.EXE and setup a new connection using LAN (option 3 on the first page)

HTH
