Hello,

I have quite the problem on my hands - Perhaps you can help me out. I will try to keep it short and simple.

So here's what's happening. I connect to the internet, via a 56k modem. A few different predicaments happen, so let me try to describe them, as best as I can.

One problem that happens: I try connecting to the internet. Everything seems to be fine - It dials up properly, verifies username and password, etc. But, before logging on to the internet, it disconnects me. Make sense?? I very commonly get an "Error 629" message.

Another problem: I successfully connect to the internet. Then, after about 5 minutes (normally running very slow), tops, it disconnects me. And then, won't allow me to connect again.

Yet another problem: I connect to the internet, with no problems. However, it won't let me access anything. Won't load any websites in Internet Explorer or Netscape, won't open AOL Instant Messenger, Outlook Express, etc. And yet, I am definitely connected. In Netscape, it tells me I am unable to make a socket connection.

These are the three main scenarios.

I have read and read for hours, trying to find a solution, to the problem. This has been going on, for a good month and a half now. It's very strange. Another point to make, is maybe twice, I have logged onto the internet, with no problem, and left it connected for a good amount of hours. Then, it won't let me back on. But this has only been maybe twice, during this entire time.

Now, I have tried a huge variety of things. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Dial-Up Networking, TCP/IP, etc. I have tried three different ISPs. I have gone in my registry, removed the various keys, that I was told to, on this very website. Configured my proxy settings (unchecked the "log on to network"). It seems that at times, some of these things, did help. But the problem quickly reoccuried, as I explained earlier. I wish I knew what was causing it.

Now, before I talk your ear off - A brief history, surrounding the events, before this all happened. I was using Juno, as my ISP. I hadn't downloaded anything off-the-wall, that I can recall. However, one night, I defragged my computer, and I've had this problem, ever since. That is the last time, I can remember my internet connection, running properly.

If you could help me out, I would more than appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

If you'd like, you can e-mail me at:

Thanks again,
Joe

The first thing to do is contact your ISP to see if they can help you.If that fails, here are a few things.

If you don't get help here, you may want to spend some time at this site.
