This has me thrown:
Win98 SE system runs fine no hidden issues, run SpyBot(Advanced settings) deep scan and repair/remove rouge entries in Registry and tracker cookies.
Updated Virus Scanner and full system scan no viries.
This is now my problem sorry for long drab:
Dial the internet connect for intermitant time, maybe 3-5 mins system completely hangs. Ctrl+Alt+Del does not respond no matter how long you let the system sit. Some times it just hangs as soon as you connect.
I have done the following:
Replaced internal Modem = Same result
Updated Dialup for Win98SE = Same result
Remove complete network TCP/IP etc = As Above
Uninstall Dialup & Re-install = Same result
Updated Winsock = Same result
Updated IE5 to IE5.5 SP2 (had issues before with IE6 & Win98SE).
Well here I am first post..what else can I do, I have searched the web tried every thing my years of working with systems....other than format re-install, I'd appreciate any comments, feed back, possible solutions etc.Cheers & Thanks in Advance

You've sure done a lot of trouble shooting! I assume that you have cleared out the Temporary Internet File and cookies. I guess I would try reinstalling Windows `on top'.

For those who might have an interest.
I have sorted it all out, and I didn't need to re-install Windows. I had it in the back of my mind it would be hardware related, and it was.
I replaced the Celeron CPU with another I had and no more freezes..........yep thats right it was the cpu.Sam thanks for the reply and yes I had cleared out the Temporary Internet File and cookies, and more.
