Subject: internet broke! WiFi networkOS: Win98CPU/Ram: P2 400 / 256MB |
Comment: I have two computers networked via a wireless NetGear router. The main computer is a p4 2.4ghz with Windows XP and I also have a Pentium 2 400mhz with WIN98 hooked up. They both have the same wireless nics and can both access eachother on the LAN. I downloaded Ad Aware and removed all 838 spyware items on the P2(new record for me) and then restarted the computer. After it booted back into Win98 the internet doesn't work. I goto Internet Explorer and it says Page Cannot Be Displayed blah blah. I tried clicking detect network settings and that didnt do any good. There is a netgear program running in the system tray and it says the signal strength for the wireless nic is 85% and above so that's fine. I can also see the Pentium 4 on the network and access its files. I can also access the Pentium 2s files from the P4. So I am wondering wut the heck happaned when I removed the spyware. Can removing spyware kill my internet?! I don't know that much about WiFi so any suggestions can help a lot! Thanks

Reply: (edit)You should first try to POWER OFF both the Broadband Modem (Cable/DSL Modem)and the Neatgear Router for about 20 seconds and POWER them back ON and see if the error message goes away. Otherwise you must Uninstall & Reinstall Networking software It can sometimes be due to Corrupt or Missing Winsock. Your ISP can actually walk you through the setup.
