Computer info: Digital DECpc LPv 433dx INTEL 486 Dx chip Phoenix Bios A486 Ver 1.01.02
Problem: Added a new hard drive, with overlay to recognize large drive (no problem). Does not have CDROM. Ready to install Windows 95. I slaved a CDROM to the hard drive. I cannot get the BIOS to recognize the CDROM. In setup, the only options I see are for HARD DISK 1 and HARD DISK 2. I'm still struggling with the older PC's and BIOS's. I thought there might be an option to auto-detect, but it wants to see it as a hard drive...not a CDROM.
I have Win95 upgrade on floppies. Would love to have use of the CDROM, however, for installation purposes.

Assuming everything is connected and jumpered correctly the driver files will find the cd-rom even though the bios doesn't see it. Your 486 won't boot from the cd though. You should be able to use a startup disk with cd-rom support to get it going. Otherwise install dos and then the dos cd drivers on the HD.

UGH! My co-worker removed the jumper from the hard drive, trying to help (I think he likes to see me struggle, and run to computing.net every time I have a problem or question). I left HARD DISK 2 "not installed", and when I rebooted...there it was! Thanks for your help Dave :o) Janet P.S. Know of any helpful books on BIOSes??
