I'm trying to install Windows 98 on a pentium-s 133MHz. Just after clicking to say I want a typical installation and it comes up about to copy system files the following Application Error Occurs:
SUWIN caused a General Protection Fault in module KRNL386.exe at 0001:50CA
Does any one have any ideas to what that refers too, and how I can solve the problem so that I can load Windows 98.
By the way the computer used to have windows 3.1 on it but because of the Windows 98 disk I have it won't let me upgrade, instead I have to start from afresh, i.e I have to select the option to overwrite the old operating system.
Thanks for any help offered.

If you format the disk from dos you should be able to do a clean install with no problems.

Delte your partition (Fdisk.exe), then format the comp. Then create a new partition (Fdisk.exe) and then install windows.

Chad,

Did you not mean
Delete the partition
Create a New Partition
Format the new Partition.

Tim,

I am not sure what you are asking.

Do you currently have Win98SE and want to install Win98FE?

Rename win.com to win.old
When prompted install to the C:\Windows directory.
It will try and install on C:\Windows\.000

Nope ...
This CD rom is from an older version of Windows than the one you are presently using. Setup functionality from this disk will be disabled."
P.S. I renamed the file while in windows mode....does that make a difference?
lol- besides alls I got in the long run when I renamed it was "win.old.com".....this sucks ... but am laughing anyways!!
