I'm having a problem when trying to install windows 98.
When I install the boot floppy disk it searches for a driver to make my CD Rom work.
It can't find the driver and therefore I can't use the windows 98 cd disk.

it gives me the error message: "no valid cd rom device drivers selected MSCD0001 not found"

On another computer that I recently installed windows 98 onto, it found the drivers ok.

I know the CD Rom can boot from the start as a windows XP recovery disk i've got seems to be
recognised and it runs itself....but not the windows 98 cd.

Also I have taken the CD Drive off my other computer (which was recognised when i installed windows) attached it to this computer and had the same error messages.

Can someone please help?

Do I need a new driver for the cd rom that I have ?
Do I need a new floppy boot disk with new drivers?
or do I need to add a driver to this disk?

Or is there A CD boot disk available and where can I get it?

There's a 98SE bootdisk creation file in my webspace. (Win98SE.EXE) You can get there through the header of this posting. There's also bootdisk.com with many flavours of boot disks.

On any of these you download, you click on the downloaded file to create a boot disk on one of your floppies. (ie; Don't copy the downloaded file directly to a floppy.)

your boot disk works, it just doesn't see the cdrom drive. try reseating the power & data cables to cdrom & motherboard, try another data cable as 2nd cd drive also not seen. see if bios sees cd drive. is cd drive on same data cable or different cable, check that jumper on back of cd drive is on master if by itself or slave if with harddrive

Are you saying the cdrom will boot up an XP recovery disk but when using a bootdisk it won't load the drivers?

There was a similar thread with that problem (among others):

I wonder if there is some incompatibility with the standard dos cdrom driver and a fast CPU.
