Comment: I would like to install Windows 98 on this computer I have, but the Cd drive is connected through the sound card and the Windows 98 bootdisk does can not find the cd drive. What can I do to have win98 install without having to open the computer. Thanks psx022000@yahoo.com

Reply: (edit)Not sure I understand how the CD drive is connected through the sound card but you'll need the CD drivers on the boot disc. Or you can boot from the CD if your bios supports it.

Reply: (edit)What you refer to as a 'boot disk' may not have the CDROM drivers on it. Get a boot floppy (free) from the link above at 'Homepage'. Boot this disk then your CDROM should work. Windows DOES have CDROM support but when you boot into DOS (when booting from FD) it does NOT. If you do not have Internet access from your computer, find a friend and take a blank FD with you. Don

Reply: (edit)Paul, you will have to open the case to find the name and model of the cdrom drive so you can download the appropriate proprietary drivers and setup program. Also take note of the sound card, as often the setup program will include the cdrom and sound card together. A standard Win 98 boot disk with generic IDE cdrom drivers, won't find your sort of cdrom.

Reply: (edit)what do you have to do to install win98??? when i start up the com it says "boot error plase insert system disk" so then i put in a startup disk.i type in setup in MS-DOS with the win98 cd in the cdrom drive and it says its gonner take a routine through your computer.Then when its finished it says that i have somthing like HTFS & HPTS and i have formated c:/ drive so what could be the problem.PLEASE HELP ME!!!
