I want to install two internal PCI modems of same make in my old computer. Is it possible? will the two modems conflict with each other since they are identical more specifically http://www.intextechnologies.com/dp...

I cannot use an external modem coz this is the only modem that supports caller-ID format in my country.

You cannot connect (and use) two modems (internal or external) on the same phone line. They will confilct with each other.

The two telephone lines each have to have a different telephone number for it to work.

Do a google search for "shotgun technology"

In addition to the above comments You will not get Win98 to configure two identical Modems. I tried that with two identical network adapters. I found that this just isn't possible in Win98.
Theoretically the modems would each use different addresses and resources.

@Jam..I have two differnet telephone numbers.. i am not looking to multilink the modems for increased bandwidth, i already have DSL access.

@Onthehill..i also tried installing two NIC's in my win XP computer..but XP would not take it,there were driver conflicts since the NIC's were of the same brand and model..the same thing was in my mind hence i posted the query regarding win 98 compatibility with 2 modems of same make..

Thanks for ur comments !

hi,
i am not sure if this would work. but worth a try.
first install only one modem physically, and let windows detect and install drivers.
after all is well, get the virtual com port no.
(let's say COM3)
now open the registry search for all instances of the above com port and rename all of them to some other COM PORT no. that does not exist. (e.g. COM6)
now reboot, make sure the modem is functioning, and try to install the second modem
i have tried manually changing the com port no. in the registry and it has not caused any undesireable effects on the modem's performance.
however i have only one one modem
my signature does not look like this

I seem to have run into another problem

I installed a motorola chipset sm56 PCI modem and then uninstalled it to try out another internal modem. However, now windows refuses to detect the other PCI modem. I think the sm56 has left some files/drivers behind..any idea how to clean them?

Then what is it that you're trying to do?
