I'm trying to install an external floppy on this laptop, so that I can have both a floppy and CD drive. Windows shows a yellow exclamation mark next this item in the device manager, saying that the driver have to be reinstalled. I installed the Windows 2000 version of these drivers. (One of the users said it worked on 98se.) But I can't seem to find drivers that are specifically for this drive. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
John

You can not use W2K Drivers period, different O/Ses.
Does the floppy drive/pcmcia card have any manufacturer details ??

Yes Win2k and Win98 are as different as you can get. You will have to find the win98 drivers ('IF' any are available).
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

John,
If the box the external floppy came in indicates it's compatible with Win98 and no driver on a floppy or CD came with it (which is quite possible), then go to the manufacturer's website and download it.
Good luck.

- Euripides (B.C. 480 - 406)ATI is great, but never buy it from Sapphire!!!

To add to response #3, if Win98 support isn't available, return the item and buy one that does have drivers available.

Thank you all for your guidance.
To tell you the truth, I don't know where the drive came from. One of the computers I stripped down at some time. The drive says Compaq on it and what number to replace it with. I have not been able to find 98 drivers for this, so perhaps you're right - there not available. The FCC is dldmd3661p1 and it says replace with 190563-001. A search with these numbers provided NO references to windows 98. Apparently some people think there are XP drivers for this, but no one can find them. One person said that it's made by Canon.
Thanks,
John
