As long as you have the master and it jumpered correctly, you should be good to go.
As long as the drive is already partitioned and formated, then you don't really need to do either

I have not seen a new drive that is already partitioned and formatted. This is up to you to do. So, the answer is no it isn't good to go. It will not even showup in windows until it is formatted. Boot to a startup disk or if the drive came with a disk. If the drive came with one then it will walk you through the process. If it didn't then you will have to ues FDISK. This is on the startup disk. Once at the A prompt then type "FDISK". The first screen that comes up will be info screen asking you if you would like to enable large disk support. What it is saying is Do you want to use FAT32? Say yes to this and continue. You will next see a simple screen with numbered options. The first optioin you will need to choose is to change drives. This is telling it to look at the secondary drive. Now, you can choose option #1 which is to create a primary partition. It will prompt you about the size of this partition. I would suggest letting the entire drive go onto 1 partition. After it does this then it will ask about creating a label for the volume. This is naming it and is up to you or you don't have to give it a name. It will then tell you that you need to reboot for it to enable your partition. You can now format the drive from windows or the startup disk. If you use the disk just leave it in on reboot and at the prompt type "Format D:" and agree to the terms.
