What are the exact steps to follow when installing a new hard drive? The hard disk is 8.4gb and the system is win95.

Hi Newbie.

The steps are next:
1. Insert HDD. Connect power and data cables to it.
2. Partitioning using Fdisk (I suggest you to use FAT32 partitions if your windows version supports it)
3. Restart computer.
4. Format HDD using Format program or anything else.

In addition to the advice above,
1. Click on HOWTOS at top of this page.
2. Click on ADVANCED HOWTOS
3. Click on How to partition and format your Hard drive.
4. Print the page or do a FILE->SAVE AS-and save it as a text file on your computer for reference.

Hello,

To install new hard disk, Please follow the steps give below.

1. Connect the new hard disk to the motherboard.

2. You can make this new hard disk as " Primary slave " or " Secondary master " according to the slot available and also you
need to change the appropriate jumper settings in the hard disk.

3. While connecting check whether the power card and data bus
are connected properly and are in right manner.

4. Switch on the computer and press 'Del' key on the key board
to go to the CMOS settings.

5. In CMOS settings screen select "HDD AUTO DETECTION" menu or in some
screens it is "AUTO DETECT HARD-DISKS" menu and press Enter key.

6. Here, the system automaticlly detects your hard disk, you need to press
' Y ' and ' Enter ' when system detects your new hard disk.

7. Then press 'Esc." key, this will brings you to the main screen.

8. Here, select 'Save settings and Quit' Option.

9. Now your hard disk has connected to the system.

10. You need to Partition the Hard disk using " Fdisk " Utility.
[ please use command " fdisk /? " to know more about Fdisk utility before partitioning the new hard disk.]

11. This tool is available in Windows 95 Operating system.

12. After partition format the new hard disk using " Format " command.

13. Restart the computer.
