Comment: My computer is currently running the English version of Win98. I have installed a second hard drive as slave and completed the partitioning/formatting. I now want to install the Japanese edition of Windows 98SE. However, I cannot do so by using the Win98SEJ CD, as the english system cannot properly read it. Also, even if it did, I believe it would attempt to overwrite the windows files on my C drive. Any suggestions on how I can get it the Japanese software installed on the slave drive??? Thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)First, when you turn on your computer press the appropriate key to get into you BIOS/CMOS settings and change your boot options to check your CD-ROM first. Second, save the settings and place your Win98SEJ CD in the CD-ROM. Third, you will get a menu of which one choice is to run setup off of the CD, take that choice. Fourth, a screen will come up asking you where you want to save/load the Operating System, at that point choose the alternate hard drive. Fifth, continue installing the CD. When you are all done you will have both versions of Win98 available. You may change to BIOS/CMOS settings to decide which version you want to boot up with. You will also be able to copy/cut and paste between the two drives. However, you will be only to have one OS running at a time.

Reply: (edit)http://www.sover.net/~whoi/WinUtils3.html My Boot Manager . Are you still debating making the leap from Windows 95 to 98? Or even Windows 98 to 98 SE? You're not alone. Still not sure which one will work best for ya? My Boot Manager will allow you to install one or more versions of the Windows 9x operating systems on the same computer. It's perfect for those who use English and non-English versions of Windows on a regular basis. Make your choice. Updated!! 12/30/99

Reply: (edit)Follow jmatt's advice and use a boot-manager... A boot-manager allows multiple OS's, - particularly useful if you want/need more than one version of the same OS, (in other languages too...); and no need to keep going into the CMOS to select the HD/OS etc. to use... (Boot-mamagers are not 'usually' required if wanting multiple installations of NT/W2K...) Beside jmatt's there are numerous others... PM has Boot-magic; http://www.xosl.org - is another 'freebie' source; http://www.webdev.net/orca/nojava/faq.htm - discusses assorted boot-managers. Didn't know about yours jmatt - now on my list of similar... Thankx for the link.
