Subject: Installed IE5.5 and Lost all Personal Folders
Comment:

I just downloaded Internet Explorer 5.5 and now when I go to use Outlook all my personal sub-folders are gone, I'm getting "Errors Detected in C:/WINDOWS/OUTLOOK.PST" and that it can't open calendar or expand files. It's also telling me that it can't download all messages from the Server (Internet Email is being used), but it does download some.

The Outlook message suggested using Inbox Repair Tool, but I can't find it. I'm told that inbox Repair Tool only loads in Outlook when you've installed it as an "Internet Mail Only" installation. Is this true?

Yes, i've looked for the old .pst files and all i find is BACKUPs of the same ones I'm using now (after the 5.5 install!).

What next?

The inbox repair tool should be located in c:\program files\Microsoft office\office. The file name is Scanpst.exe Run this and then browse to where the file is.

Why is everyone downloading ie5.5 when they read about all the bugs in it and are advised by all forums to wait until Microsoft gets most of the bugs out of it? Seems to me if you read and reread about buggy software, you dont go right out and download it and end up asking the same questions as three dozen other ones have already asked. Dont mean to sound read, but have seen all these ie5.5 problems all too often.

Sadly, I agree with Dora. I know you don't need to hear it right now, but at the very least you'll now think twice before downloading too early.
Microsoft is famous for releasing software prematurely with lots of bugs. And they wonder why they get such bad press.
I posted a question earlier tonight about why my installation of Outlook 2000 turned out to be the biggest load of bull poop I've ever gone thru with a software install.

You know this is really funny. The programs you have mentioned I have not had a bit of trouble with. Seems to me the problem may not be with the upgrade, but the problems with the unit prior to the upgrade. I don't think sitting back and saying you shouldn't have done that is much help. For every bad installation there are 100 that go very well. You never hear from someone who's installation went well. Why would they, he/she is satisfied and has nothing to bellow about. I have installed IE5.5 on several systems without a hiccup and as for The Office 2000 products, the enhancements to Office 97 are wonderful and everyone should be using 2000 instead of 97. Especially Outlook 2000.

This is just my opinion... I could be wrong.
