Hello!
Here's the problemo:
I just upgraded to a new mobo (Asus a7a266)/processor(AMD 1.2GHZ)/video card (ATI Radeon 64MB), etc.
At first everything installed ok, windows recognized everything (give or take a few Blue Screens)...after I installed my network card (with nothing else in the slots)...my computer went haywire (blue screens everytime). So, I figured I'd just format and start off on a clean slate.
Well, I formatted...then I booted from my win98 boot disk...setup runs scandisk and scans both my c drive (Maxtor 13GB) and my d drive (Maxtor 20GB)...they scan without a hitch.
Then, Windows setup gets to the dos screen and gives me the following:
Scanning system registry......
Copying files needed for windows setup...*THEN* when the installation *should* start....I just get booted back to an A:\ prompt...really weird...I've installed windows quite a few times and never ran into this.
Sometimes it says "Please remove any floppy from your drive and restart"...and....that does nothing except start the cycle over again.
I'm clueless. I've tried Win98...Win2k...and WinMe and they all do the same thing...
Any ideas guys?
Thanks-a-million!

I am guessing here, but it sounds like your new mobo BIOS setup doesn't match with your hardware config. It could be something like 'catch level' etc.. examine the BIOS settings again.

Did some research in the newsgroups and figured disabling the virus protection at boot would help...but I guess that would be too easy...it didn't.
I'm not real sure about the "catch level" in the BIOS...I didn't see anything relating to that.
Here's what I'm getting at this point...
Windows setup loads...scans the disks...everything goes fine...then...it says "scanning system registry"...then..."copying files needed for setup"....
then...
"Please remove any floppy disks from the drive and press any key to restart"...I restart...and it starts all over.
thanks for any help guys!

The glitch appears to be " scanning windows registry" if the disk is formatted what reg. is it trying to scan? I've only seen it try to scan a reg. on setup if it's a reinstall over an existing windows set. Try a 'dir/p/a/o' from a C:\ dos prompt to see if there are any system.dat or user.dat files

just remembered where I had this stashed. this switch may get by the reg. check sequence and the followup problem with the floppy miss-que.
WINDOWS 98 ONLY
setup /IH
Skips the Registry check.
setup /NTLDR
Does not detect previous operating systems

Thanks tinkerbong, that /ih switch got me to the windows setup screen (something I hadn't seen in a while)...but now I'm getting a general protection fault...but it's a start...thanks...
