Hi,
Can I install windows98se over windows95?
My puter runs 32ram with 3GB.

Btw, it's an old Packard Bell so no chance changing the motherboard.

It depends on the processor speed, in addition to the RAM and hard drive. Hardware requirements for Win 98 can be found a the Microsoft Website.

Irregardless of what OS you end up with:
*You'll extend the usable life of the computer by adding more RAM,
*You won't be able to run modern software, expecially games.

Best Luck,
Bob

Hello Ripley,
Very good idea, as long as you have the kit to do it: the autoboot floppy disk and the CDrom connected to it...
Better to not format your windows 95 to keep all your configuration which is very similar between the two OS...
You will need at least to update your memory ram config which is really low to perform a good work today, you have probably empty slots added on your mother card to be able to add one or two new memories bars of 32 MB or more to arrive to a minimum of 128 MB, and believe me this is a minimum today.
Memory bars are very cheaps today, ask for information, and be careful !!! some antics windows 95 computers were using EDO Memories bars which needs to be added in empty slots two by two..... ask for information to your favorite computer dealer.....

Processor speed is only pentium 166.
Have the full version of windows98se with floppy and cd and prod key.

Is 166 fast enough?

Windows 98 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS are:
486DX2 66Mhz or faster
16MB RAM
2-400MB Free Hard drive Space
and thats it!
tip: Trick windows 95/98/98se/me Full into upgrading current windows install:
Rename win.com and winver.exe in your windows directory and run setup in dos mode.
windows will want to install to C:\WINDOWS.000 change to c:\windows (the following sentence is only valid IF you installed Windows into the WINDOWS directory.)
Your computer will do fine for windows 98 SE I have a PENTIUM 166 /w 112MB ram and multiboot Windows 95/98/98se/me/2000 on my 40GB hd. Windows 98 runs smoothly on an old 486 so no need to worry about it not running. I have found that windows 95/98 can do better with media stuff on pentium 166 than can win ME/2000 EVEN though win ME req min pent 150 and 2000 only 133. XP however needs 233 and will not run on mine, so no luck there. =) Good Luck.....

And also you will have to use Rambooster, for 32MB is enough, but will cause low memory problems. Rambooster will solve them. It is free.

I run Win98 SE on my laptop, which is P-133 with 32-MB RAM. It's a little slow, but not too bad. Adding RAM (to both yours & mine) would definitely be an improvement.
