Comment:
I have a formatted hard drive and a Windows 98 SE CD. How do I install the windows 98 SE when the computer does not recognize the CD ROM? I also have 6 windows 3.1 disks. What FDISK do I use to partition the hard drive?

Firstly you need to make sure the system can access the cd-rom drive ? If it can you can use a win98 boot disk made form another system to boot the machine with. Run setup.exe from the boot disk and the system should locate the CD-ROM. Check your bios to see if a CD-ROM drive is recognised !

Are you loading 98 or 3.1? If the drive is already formatted, fdisking it will make you have to re-format. If it's set up OK, and the way you want it, skip the fdisk. Does your BIOS give you the option to boot from the CD (for 98SEthat is)? (If it's an IDE or EIDE CDROM, not a proprietary drive). If so, set your boot sequence to CDROM, A, C. Put the CD in the drive and continue the boot, then run setup.
