Can any one help. I have purchased a Dell Latitude E5500 because it has a RS232 port built in and I need to run software that will only run in dos hence 98. Is it possible to run 98 on such a computer and if so how! Many Thanks for any posts.

Again, (as in a recent rash of posts) the issue will be finding drivers, updates, etc. that will support the OS and the applications you plan on running on it...

The dell support page doesn't show any 98 drivers: http://support.dell.com/support/dow... That doesn't mean they don't exist, just that you'd have to find them elsewhere. But an RS232 is just a serial port. It's hard to find a PC that doesn't have one. If that was your main consideration in buying the laptop you'd be much better off with something older that will have 98 drivers available.

Try Installing Dosbox, or MS Virtual PC to run the older OS. EEOC

If the laptop has a SATA hard drive I think that may be a deal breaker.
