Reply: (edit)Hi, That is not a special issue. You just start up the computer by using a Windows 98 boot up diskette. Then, it is better to re-formate your harddisk and follows Windows 98 installing procedure to complete your request.

Reply: (edit)Edwin, Actually there are some issues. I have a AMD K6-2 300 and a FIC VA-503+ mainboard and have had lots o problems. First and for most, make sure you have the USB enabled in the bios before installing Win 98. If you don't do this, the system will become unstable in about 24 to 48 hours. Also, it has a bios feature called Spread Spectrum Modulated. You may want to turn this off while installing Win 98. It has caused it to hang during installation in the past. Don't load any of the Bus Mastering or Patch for chipset drivers included with the CD-Rom because they are for Windows 95 only. Win98 should recognize the Bus Mastering and chipset drivers. The rest of my problems center around a Quantum Bigfoot CY 6.4 Gig hard drive but, I don't think it is a motherboard issue. Don't bother upgrading the bios unless you want to be able to upgrade to the latest K6 chips. If you have any problems let me know via this forum. Regards, Fox

Reply: (edit)Edwin, I'll ditto fox's response, with one addendum. While you don't need to install the patch for the chipset, or the bus-mastering drivers from the CD, you will need to run the miniport IRQ routing driver. Also, if you have AGP video, you will need to run the VIGART AGP patch. The newest drivers are all available for download at http://www.via.com.tw. good luck!

Reply: (edit)I have had a lot of problems too - I lost the installation CD for the mainboard. stupid me. I thought something was wrong with all my boards. I realise now I need to install the correct win98 drivers so it lets the PCI bus work properly :P I'm going to the above home page to check it out. thanks a lot :)

Reply: (edit)Okay, I installed the 4in1 patch from via. My sytem runs stable, except in star fleet command. That program locks or reboots my computer. Another story for another fourm. My question concerns which bus master do I install - win98 or via? Why? another question is why do I have "via bus master pci ide controler" listed twice in my irq listings? fic va-503+ motherboard with k6-2 350mhz chip running win98 and a prayer

Reply: (edit)Hi, I have the same components as mentioned. However, has anyone experienced problems when booting, Windows 98 SE looks like is loading, you see the blue bar moving on the bottom and then all of a sudden it just freezes. I have reinstalled the OS many times and it seems to work but once you install your programs after a while the system will experience this problem. Thanks! John

Reply: (edit)I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask about this, but I've had my Matrox card about a year now and could reeealy need some help. ok, I have an Aopen AX59pro mainboard with VIA chipset. I have also a Matrox Millenium G400 graphics card. What happens is that when I install the drivers for the graphics card, my computer won't shut down properly, and then I'm not able to make changes. I have tried, win 98-SE shutdown patch, the VxD and VIA drivers found on the VIA homepage. I have tried editing some USB settings in Windows, about everyting! Can someone please help me????
