During install of XP you have the option to remove and create partitions as well as formating, therefore just boot from the XP CD and follow the prompts.

I think the question was whether or not you can upgrade from Win 98 to XP.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I guess that it is possible. Although I would not recommend trying. I would install another hard drive and install XP clean. Then I would slave the 98 drive and transfer the files I wanted to keep.

Upgrade is possible, just insert the XP cd with 98 running and as it autoruns it will ask if you want to upgrade, just be aware that if you have any probs with 98 such as virus or spyware then they will also occor on the xp upgrade. IMHO a clean install is preferable

Upgrade from 98SE to XP is allowed... Whilst a clean-start/install is often advised... t'ain't always essential...

Also you could go a dual-boot arrangement and when XP running OK... delete '98 from system.

Note that if you go for an Upgrade from 98SE - providing it all works OK... - all apps etc. will still be there. But if you go for a clean-install (or dual-boot) all apps etc. have to be installed (afresh) for the XP installation.

Very useful (wise) to ensure system is OK for XP - before starting out; also that you have all required drivers etc...

A dual win98/XP install is adviseable, if you have enough hard drive space. XP will have to be installed on it's own partition or hard disk.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

If you upgrade to XP from 98SE run the sestem check first. It will tell you what Drivers you need for your hardware to work in XP also what software should be uninstalled and reinstalled after XP is on.

Hi Derek, pressures of work i`m afraid :~(

The Xp system check sucks :P It told me i needed drivers for my graphics card and NIC, then promptly installed them ok in both instances . . . . . .

Did the same thing on one of my other systems also
