I recently bought a new computer from dell, a dimension 8300 with windows xp preinstalled on it. However, I was disappointed to find that all my dos games and other things were not supported by windows xp. So I bought partition magic and resized the ntfs partition, and created a fat32 partition of 20GB to install windows 98 on. DOS works fine on the new partition, but as soon as I installed windows 98 it would only start in safe mode. I got it to start normally by checking the box "force compatibility disk mode access" in msconfig but the display adapter conflicts with the "system board extension for acpi bios". This only lets me use 16 colours and a low resolution when in windows. I have installed drivers for the Intel 875p chipset and the GeForce 4 MX 440 8xAGP. Unfortunately all the drivers that came with my computer are for xp. I can't resolve the hardware conflict because windows doesn't let me change the values. Is there any way to do this!? Or was it just not meant to be done! Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

You have to install 98 first and then reinstall XP. 98 should load the drivers by default.
I haven't seen anything yet that is not backwards compatable with XP. The problem is finding drivers that work with XP as they hurried it to beat the impending law suit at the time.
If you right click on the program you are running in XP and select properties you can set it to run in 95 compatability mode, but XP does not recognize DOS.
