Hi, I need some help here or ill have to submit to a it pro who will charge a fortune for not doing much.

Im trying to install win 95 on a blank system, when I put the install disk in nothing happens even when I restart the computer.( I think it used to have 98 on it cause the windows 98 screen pop up 4 a second) Ms dos comes up thats it, I cant change to my cd drive, says its an invalid drive no matter what letter i use. Ive tried to install the cd driver but it needs some drivers from windows to use it and i cant get to them cause the cd wont work i guess.
The cd drive is recognized in bios and will play music listened through headphones, but cant select drive in dos.
The only file on the hard drive is command. The file the driver wants is mscdex.exe. I dont know where to get this or how to install either.
All i want to do is install win 95 any help would be apreciated

Download this boot disk it will install drivers for your CD-Rom drive. It will make a ram drive so your CD-Rom drive will be pushed up a letter. If it was D:\ in windows it will be E:| in the boot disk

Ive not need to download a boot disk but it should go like this download it and put a floppy in the drive the double click it to make your boot disk the on the PC you are working on put it in and start the PC. Choose to start with CD-Rom support it should say number of drives If it says 1 or above you are good to go.

Download it to your C:\ drive put a blank floppy in your A:\ drive, then double click the file on your C:\ drive it will then make your bootable floppy disk. Now do you understand.

Depending on where you put the CD-Rom drive.

Primary slave (IDE 1) (Middle of ribbon cable)jumper on back of drive set to slave (SL)

Secondary Master (IDE2) (End of ribbon cable)jumper on back of drive set to Master (MA)

Seconday slave (IDE2)(Middle of ribbon cable) jumper on back of drive set to slave (SL)

Where did you put the drive and how many drives does it have including all hard drives?

Its pluged into secondary master, and the cd drive is set to master. HDD is the primary master. And I have a floppy drive.

Ive tried to run these boot disks but they wont run in dos mode, how do I copy these files to my hard drive, I need to get the mscdex file on there and then i should beable to install the proper driver and I should be away, cross my fingers. Is installing win 98 easier, cause ive found out that 95 doesnt have cd drivers.. Cause I can borrow a 98 os disk.

I still dont think you follow. If you have downloaded the boot disk file I said then double clicked it it should have made a bootable floppy disk with CD-Rom support after that put it in the PC you are working on and turn it on. Choose to start with CD-Rom support at the A:\> type fdisk and delete and create and new pation. Then reboot again at the A:\> type format C: after that is finished type at the A:\> E: then hit enter and at the E:\> type setup.exe the hit enter. It will still install your 95 CD

One more thing! It seems that win98 is still installed on that system. You cannot install win95 over win98. You will have to delete win98 from the system.
