Subject: Install 98SE on 20MBOS: DOS 6.22CPU/Ram: Pentium 133MHz/20MB RAM |
Comment: Hi! I found this old Compaq desktop at a garage sale. I turned it on, only to find it doesn't have an OS. I want to install 98SE on it. It will only used for WordPad, so I dont care about the speed and do not want some illegal copy of Windows 95. Is there some command line prompt from DOS to over-run any built-in safeguards against not installing on enough RAM? Thanks!

Reply: (edit)Setup /id will ignore the disk space check. But I don't think there is anyway you will get win98se installed on a 20mb disk.

Reply: (edit)No problem.... Just string as many setup switches together as you like, each one separated by a space: setup /id /im /is /etc HTH Dave

Reply: (edit)Ugly .. ugly .. ugly. You're buying into a real "crash and burn" scenario. I wouldn't save anything you really want or need on that lash-up. Anything less than 32mb of RAM on Win98 will be very unstable. You'll be running out of resources and locking up so often you'll wind up screaming. If you do this, do us a favor and don't post your woes back here.
