Im trying to load windows 98 on my desktop PC. I boot to windows 98 boot dsik I obtained from bootdisk.com which loads the CD drivers. The harddrive is formatted as a FAT16, single partition. I copied the entire CD rom to the harddrive and run setup. It goes through the setup process, but comes back with a error message:
Setup cannot create file on your startup drive and cannot setup windows 98. What am I doing wrong? I have also tried booting directly to the harddrive and running setup from the CD rom which was copied.

1. You only need the win98 folder from the CD, not the whole thing.

2. You should format as FAT32

3. How large is the partition?

4. Try repartitioning/formatting and start the install from the CD.

You have to run FDISK first (assuming your drive is over 540MB) , and choose "Large Disk Support" in order to enable FAT32. Destroy whatever partitions are currently created (be careful not to destroy a "diagnostics partition" if one is present). Run FDISK again and recreate the bootable partition and then FORMAT.
