Comment: Im trying to load windows 98 on my desktop PC. I boot to windows 98 boot dsik I obtained from bootdisk.com which loads the CD drivers. The harddrive is formatted as a FAT16, single partition. I copied the entire CD rom to the harddrive and run setup. It goes through the setup process, but comes back with a error message: Setup cannot create file on your startup drive and cannot setup windows 98. What am I doing wrong? I have also tried booting directly to the harddrive and running setup from the CD rom which was copied.

Reply: (edit)1. You only need the win98 folder from the CD, not the whole thing. 2. You should format as FAT32 3. How large is the partition? 4. Try repartitioning/formatting and start the install from the CD.

Reply: (edit)You have to run FDISK first (assuming your drive is over 540MB) , and choose "Large Disk Support" in order to enable FAT32. Destroy whatever partitions are currently created (be careful not to destroy a "diagnostics partition" if one is present). Run FDISK again and recreate the bootable partition and then FORMAT.
