Hello,

I have read several messages on problems
regarding mice on Win boxes that just stop
working.

I am having that problem after a reboot.
I went into the install/remove hardware
section in the control panel and here is
what it said:

"This device is not working properly because
Windows cannot load the file (vmouse.VXD) that loads the drivers for this device. (Code 8)

To fix this problem, run Windows Setup again using your Windows CD-ROM"

Does this mean that I must re-install windows? If so, this is insane for one lousy file.

I have a recovery disk from Sony that gives me an option to install the factory defaults and save my data, but it says I have insufficeint disk space....

God, I love windows.....

Any suggestions on how I can fix this without re-installing?

Please let me know,

Rod

Run SFC and tell it to extract one file from the C:\windows\options\cabs directory.

Extract vmouse.vxd into the C:\windows\system\vmm32 directory and restart.

If necessary, (hopefully) you should be able to do a windows reinstall (without losing anything) by running `setup' in c:\windows\options\cabs

Hi y'all,

vmouse.VXD is in win98_48.cab of your Win CD.
I think the mouse file gets loaded when you boot with a startup disk and choose WITH cd-rom support..I don't think you have to run the complete setup...If not,you can try to extract the vmouse.vxd in dos, and save to the folder Herb suggested....

Good luck
