Does anyone have any ideas on how to properly clean the index.dat files? I've read that neither these files nor the contents should be merely deleted. I've heard Spider may work, but may not if IE5.x is installed (my situation). Anything else? Thanks.

I highly recommend this tiny utility that will easily cleanse the index.dat file for the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Read all about it and download it at:

http://www.winmag.com/fixes/ie/iecache2.htm

The download link is the one entitled "IE Cache Cleanup 2.0 Fix"

Take care,

I always 'deltree' the CONTENT.IE5-directory and haven't had any problems with it. Both on a desktop and on a notebook.

Backup and try!
