Cheeky maybe but may I ask you a question that might relate to some of the ideas you have given. First the background:

I'm in the UK with W98SE + IE6 SP1 and a USB Sagem 800 modem on ADSL broadband. Much to the disbelief of others it still uses the Connect Box and dials out (confirmed as normal by my server). I'm happy with this because it means I can't be hacked when offline.
I have WMP71 onboard, as well as RealPlayer which I have tamed and runs great without their malware, update requests etc.

Now for the question. I recently visited this website:
http://www.angelradio.co.uk/
You may laugh if you wish about the content LOL.

What is odd is that I can get the online broadcasts if I select the "Broadband Real" green button. I generally prefer to use WMP71 but if I use the "Broadband Windows" green button WMP71 pops up but eventually I get "The server received invalid data from the client on the control connection".

I have the latest package of Codecs and have Googled this message trying several fixes that are suggested. Nothing seems to overcome this malady so I wondered if you might be just the person to shed some light on it. By all means try their buttons but if you are a young person you might prefer to wear ear muffs.

I'm getting ready to reinstall Windows today. It works for me now (using WMP 9). I will install WMP 7.1 and let you know later.

Thx Steven

I'd better add that the website I posted is a bit rickety in several respects so it could be that they've just not got it set it up right.

This works with wmp 7.1 too. I looked at the properties as it was playing. I was expecting Windows Media Audio, but it is actually MP3. The only thing I can suggest right off top of my head is to try reinstalling WMP.

If you look at the contents of the broadboad link (64k.asx) you'll see:

http://64.72.122.88:8006/

I can open that in several media players.

Thx Stephen.

Just put a new modem in due to other problems. I'll give it a look later and post back.

Just wondered if new modem might help somehow (unlikely I know). No dice so I'll keep looking at this longer term.

Anyhow, you have confirmed it is not a website problem.

Thx again

Just in case you pop back. I tried uninstalling WMP71 (ran registry cleaners) then re-installed it - no dice.

Whipped it out again then shoved in WMP9 and it was as good as gold.

Funny old world. Thx.
