I wanted to make some changes to my autoexec.bat (editing the path) but when I runned sysedit it said it couldn't locate c:\autoexec.bat. and C:\config.sys
I checked, and the files are not in the C:\ folder...
I searched for the files and i found them in C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD together with a lot of DOS programs (commands).
I copied the files to my C:\ folder and now the sysedit doesn't make an error anymore, but it is a wrong autoexec.bat i think...
When i restarted my computer he runned the autoexec.bat and acted weird, displaying things from the autoexec i don't understand.
If i delete the autoexec and the system.ini from the root folder, the computer works almost normally... some things I edited are gone, like the path-variable and a startupscreen I created myself...
But for the rest Windows runs perfectly...I've got a lot of questions right now:
1) How can I restore my autoexec.bat
2) How can Windows run 'normally' without a autoexec.bat and a system.ini
3) Is it normal that these system files are in C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD?Can you help me?

Normally Windows doesn't need an AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file to run unless you need some specific drivers or want (or need) to load an MS-DOS program (or settings) before Windows starts. System.ini and Windows.ini are leftovers for compatibility with Win3.x. Win9x can use entries there.

1. There's no way to `restore' them, but you can create new ones with Notepad.
2. See response #1
3. Those files are special for EBD and shouldn't be used.

The config.sys and autoexec.bat in the EBD folder are for a floppy bootdisk only. Don't use them when booting from the hard drive.
Autoexec.bat may not have been there as it's not needed, or it may have been disabled in msconfig. Delete the versions you copied from the EBD folder and run msconfig. Make sure 'normal startup' is selected or that autoexec.bat itself is checked.
Disabling it in msconfig changes the extension from .bat to .tsh (I think that's it) so sysedit wouldn't be able to find it.

@ DAVEINCAPS
It isn't disabled in msconfig, and there are no files *.tsh or so.
But thanx anyway.
I'd like to be able to configure my autoexec, so could anyone explane me how to make an new autoexec?

Here's a sample from one of our machines that needs to:
1. Have Norton Anti-Virus load at Startup
2. Have Sound Blaster Support for MS-DOS programs
3. Make Novell Netware aware of certain variables to support MS-DOS programs.C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\NAVDX.exe /startup
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H7 P330 T6
SET SBPCI=C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\AUDIO\DOSDRV
SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32
SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANTEC\PCANYW~1\;%PATH%
Set NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISHEssentially, these are MS-DOS commands that are executed BEFORE Windows starts. If you look at AUTOEXEC.BAT on a Windows Bootdisk (diskette), you'll see samples of other commands. It all depends on what you need to have AUTOEXEC.BAT do for you.
