I have twice copied the current bios from the IBM website ( on two seperate disks). Both times my laptop said that the image file was corrupted. Anyone know whats going on here?

Dunno, but you have to be really careful with BIOS updates to make sure you have the right file.

Normally it is quite unecessary, so I trust you are aware that there is a risk that this process will wreck your motherboard if you get it wrong.
