Reply: (edit)Sounds a bit complicated so I'm none too sure what to suggest. If you can get to the Windows Safe Mode screen (one with safe mode at each corner) then I would head for the Control Panel then System. Take a look to see if there are any yellow questions marks. If so you might be able to find what area of the system is at fault. I'm not familiar with Workgroup Mapper but perhaps if you can find this in Control Panel/Add-Remove you should uninstall it (assuming you have the program to hand somehwere). If the system then boots OK install it again. BUT await advice from someone who knows about mapper before doing this. Are you W95 or W98? Derek

Reply: (edit)1st guess - From dos type in scanreg /restore to restore a previous registry. 2nd guess - If you're win98, rename autoexec.bat to autoexec.old from dos by typing c: (enter) cd.. (enter) ren autoexec.bat autoexec.old .. sometimes a program will update your autoexec.bat to boot straight into dos mode resulting in the condition you are now in.

Go to Start, Shutdown, Restart in MSDOS. You'll be at c:\windows. Type in cd\ and press Enter. Once at the c prompt type in the following ren autoexec.bat autoexec.moo (acutally any 3 letter will do for the last part...which I have chosen to be moo) then press enter. You'll be at a c prompt again. Then type ren config.sys config.moo press Enter. You'll be at a C prompt. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL or just shut down the system and turn it back on. That will get you out of a DOS Loop most of the time.

Reply: (edit)Guess what? I'm not stuck in MS DOS, it kinda looks like the safe mode. My color and all is blurred. I can do most everything on here, but the color looks funny and when I finally get on windows a error comes up RUNDLL error loading C:\Progra~1|Newdot~1\newdot~2.DLL

Reply: (edit)Yes, it sounds as if you are in Safe Mode (and therefore using basic Window drivers with 640x480 screen size). I've never used Newdot stuff but I gather it has spyware. My general feeling is that you should go to Control Panel/Add-Remove and see if there is an entry for Newdot. If so uninstall it and see if that fixes the problem. In the longer term if you want Newdot then get hold of Ad-Aware which is a program that will removes spyware (including Newdot).
