Comment: i'm missing system.ini from my windows folder and it won't let me run win95 or edit anything in dos! the only thing i can do is use a floppy disk! could someone please help me?

Reply: (edit)Using a boot disk(Win95 start up disk) try scanreg /restore at DOS prompt. Don't be afraid to reinstall.

Reply: (edit)Boot to a dos prompt and rename SYSTEM.CB to SYSTEM.INI then you will be able to load into windows using the original version of the file. Assuming of course that that is the only file you've lost!

Reply: (edit)have someone make up a windows startup disk reboot when "starting windows 95" appears hit f8...goto safe mode then goto recyclebin and see if your system.ini is there if so click restore reboot..

Reply: (edit)The Recycle Bin in DOS is named Recycled and might not show up in 'dir'. You could also use Undelete if you have it [WIN95 CD-rom, 'OLDMSDOS' folder], that's if you can use your CD-rom in DOS.
